Proving beauty's more than just skin deep

Part 1 of 3

With the undeniable rise in popularity of health crazes like chia seeds, kombucha. atheleisure wear and bikram yoga, it’s clear that the pursuit of wellness is a hot trend with no signs of slowing down. We're becoming more aware of what we are putting into our bodies and the concept of creating health on the inside to achieve results that radiate externally is one that we here at Skin Physics can get behind, after all, beauty begins from within.

The rise of attention in the beauty industry being paid towards supplementing vitamins, minerals and elements through edibles, is no small feat. A recent report from Google revealed that the search term ‘collagen powder’ is at an all time high, with a 317% increase in searches compared to just this time last year. With more than 80% of the body’s immunity located in the gut, it makes sense that delivering products that will benefit the overall health of this area, will also benefit your skin.

The gut is where we process nutrients, metabolise hormones and create detoxifying enzymes so when it’s balance is off, it’s reflected through the skin by a general lack of lustre, acne and/or other unfavourable skin conditions. Studies have found by altering the gut microbiome, the genetic material that lives in your intestinal tract, they can successfully improve your skins health. By altering it to a more favourable state, the case study’s skin showed increased hydration and generally improved radiance.

However, it’s collagen that’s really the power player.

“it’s the most abundant structural protein found in the body (90% by mass) gives structure to our skin, hair, nails, bones, ligaments and tendons", explains Dr Curtis Crasto, R&D and Technical Manager at Skin Physics. “It forms rope-like fibers that pack together side-by-side, forming Collagen fibrils. It is the inter-connection of these Collagen fibrils that is responsible for the bio-mechanical rigidity and strength of Collagen that makes skin firm and resilient to wrinkles and sagging skin.”

As we age, collagen begins to reduce it’s rate of production on average by one percent ever year starting at the tender age of just twenty. By the time we reach our fifties it’s not unusual for many people’s natural collagen production to have completely stopped altogether.

“Whether as part of your anti-ageing prevention plan or anti-ageing treatment to reduce wrinkles, loss of skin firmness and dull looking skin it would be good to start your collagen supplement early for beautiful and healthy skin.” Dr Crasto recommends.

Emerging from the Greek word glue, Collagen is undoubtably a key element to achieving, luminous, plump and smooth skin. While we’re naturally blessed with the protein structure in spades when we’re younger, as we age resupplying our body - and our skin – is essential.

Which is why we’ve created Collagen Beauty Elixir,  an ingestible beauty supplement that harnesses the scientifically proven benefits of Collagen Bio-Peptides.

Launching online next week, the innovative beauty supplement is powered with 100% naturally sourced ingredients designed to support your skin's natural production of collagen and elastin and counteract premature signs of ageing, improving skin firmness and brightening skin tone.

Find out why Collagen Beauty Elixir is a must-have staple in your beauty regime in part 2 of our 3 part 'beauty from within' series this Saturday, as we dive deeper into the benefits of a holistic approach to skin care.
