Trying to reach your skin goals but not seeing the results you're after? With the amount of information available, it can be easy to fall victim to many skincare mistakes that cause more harm than good to your skin. Don't let this hinder your progress - trust me, we've all been there! As investing in skincare products and knowing how to use them go hand-in-hand, we've compiled a list of common mistakes and what you can do to not only fix them, but enhance your routine overall. It's time to get glowing, your skin will thank you! 

Over Exfoliating

Exfoliating is a fantastic way to remove any dead skin cells, smooth texture, clarify the skin and improve overall skin appearance. However, excessive exfoliation that is done multiple times a week or even in a day, can ultimately damage the skin's barrier. This can lead to tiny tears in the skin as well as causing redness, irritation, dryness and burning. Whilst exfoliating expedites skin cell turnover, it is important to do this in moderation. We recommend exfoliating 1 to 3 times per week or decreasing this amount to once per week if you have sensitive skin. 

Not Cleaning Tools

While we may have a skincare routine put into place, we often forget that the state of the tools you use on your face can impact your skin. We're talking about makeup brushes, makeup sponges, skincare devices, face rollers, gua sha's - the list goes on! Makeup, oil, buildup and dirt easily adhere to these instruments and hide bacteria leading to breakouts, irritation and sometimes infection. To help maintain optimal skin health, we recommend cleaning these tools based on the below:

  • Makeup Brushes & Sponges: Every 1-2 weeks 
  • Skincare Devices: After every use 
  • Face Rollers & Gua Sha's: After every use 
Skipping SPF 

Sunscreen is one of the most important products that everyone must use in their skincare routine no matter what the weather is and where you are. Consistent exposure to the sun without sunscreen can increase pigmentation, fine lines, wrinkles, rough and uneven texture and redness. We recommend a sunscreen application of at least SPF30+ to ensure you stay sun safe and gain all the benefits sunscreen has to offer for our skin.

Sleeping With Makeup 

No matter how exhausted you are, whether it was accidental, on purpose or out of pure laziness (don't worry - it's happened to us too!) sleeping with makeup is the easiest way to invite clogged pores, acne and other bacteria's onto your skin. This can also affect the ability of other products to absorb and penetrate into the skin. Using Too Many Products

It's true that there are so many amazing treatments out there and while we want to try everything possible to get a beautiful, glowing complexion, we must remember that too many products at once can overwhelm the skin and interfere with the effectiveness of a product. Simplifying your regime with the basics and reducing the amount of actives can help avoid irritation or harm to your skin's barrier. For both morning and evening we recommend: cleanser, toner, serum and moisturiser. Feel free to differentiate your treatments and moisturisers for morning and evening, but sticking to one per routine.
