Sin #1: Not washing your makeup off

The devil on you shoulder says: “One night of sleeping with makeup on won’t change anything, Plus, bed looks so, very inviting.

The reality: If, like the majority of the population, you’re not a fan of big pores, then this one’s going to scar you for life. Just one night of sleeping with makeup on can embed the product into your pores, causing them to stretch and appear not only bigger in size, but also clogged - causing blackheads - double ouch! We don’t know about you - but we think that’s worth sacrificing five minutes of sleep for.

Sin #2: Pimple popping

The devil on your shoulder says: “But if I squeeze it, then it disappears and my problem’s solved, right?”

The reality: We’ve all been there, you wake up in the morning and see a huge, unexpected white head staring back at you in the mirror. Rather than applying mounds of theatre-grade concealer, wouldn’t the easy option be just to pop that pesky pimple and get on with your day?

The short answer: sure, if you don’t mind ten more pimples popping up. Once the bacteria and oil that’s contained in the skin is released and spread, it can lead to many more pimples. Plus, do we even need to mention that pesky little red mark (scar) that’s going to stick around for the next few weeks to come?

Sin #3: Over-cleansing

The devil on your shoulder says: “If I constantly clean any dirt or toxin’s I’ve accumulated off my face then surely that must be good for my skin.”

The reality: Ever heard of the saying, ‘too much of a good thing’? Well, this is where the phrase applies perfectly. While cleansing is absolutely essential, and of course, beneficial to your skin, too much cleansing can disrupt the balance of the skin, leading to irritation, dryness and aggravating skin problems.

Sin #4: Not drinking enough water

The devil on your shoulder says: “But… coffee contains water!”

The reality: We get it, life get’s busy and for that reason a lot of us are guilty of not getting the required 2litres+ of H20 we should be consuming per day. However, water is absolutely essential for a healthy and luminous complexion as it works to flush toxins out of the body. Try and carry around a large bottle with you all day, so that you can consistently sip from it and won’t need to be refilling it constantly.

Sin #5: Not switching up your products regularly

The devil on your shoulder says: “If I’m saving on products then that’s more money I can put towards skin care!”

The reality: For all you product hoarders out there, it’s time to face the facts and ditch the old products. In particular, makeup like old foundation, primers and tinted moisturisers - which tend to last 6-12 months - could be spreading bacteria to your face, resulting in blemishes.

Sin #6: Skipping the ‘screen

The devil on your shoulder says: “But a bronze glow looks so healthy!”

The reality: If you’re guilty of this one, then this is the sin you need to change up stat. Sunscreens health benefits are so universally well known it’s almost pointless listing them (but we will anyway). Just one quick application in the morning can protect you from toxins, stop premature ageing in its tracks & save you from major skin-health problems.

and yes, this applies all year round!

Sin #7: Taking long, steamy showers

The devil on your shoulder says: “The longer the shower, the cleaner my skin”

The reality: Yes, showers and cleansing are a non-negotiable both when it comes to skin care and just hygiene in general. But, showers that are too long and too hot tend to dry out skin by removing it’s natural moisture, so try and keep it short and sweet!
