You should all be familiar with a Chai tea, latte or really anything by now not only because it has been around for so long but because of its recent popularity and skin/health benefits. No it's not just a tasty coffee alternative. 

Chai is a mix of many different spices, typically cinnamon, cardamom, ginger, cloves, star anise, nutmeg and a crack of pepper. Each ingredient holding amazing age old health benefits but together they really pack a punch when it comes to good skin. 

With the rise of ingestible beauty and treating your skin from the inside as well as the outside it is good to know that a Chai has some of your skin concerns covered and it doesn't hurt that it is purely delicious! 

 

What are the benefits? 

Cardamom has unique anti-bacterial properties that can help to purify the skin while also being a great way to settle the stomach and treat acidity in the body. 

Cinnamon is only of the key ingredients in any Chai mix and one of the main helpers when it comes to skin. This beauty is amazing at settling your gut and promoting digestion which can be a great treatment for acne prone skin caused by gut imbalances. Cinnamon is also a natural antioxidant which means it can help fight free radicals present in your body that can be ageing your skin, this makes it the perfect addition to this anti-ageing drink. 

Nutmeg is another one that can help with digestion, not only does it do this though, nutmeg has great anti-inflammatory properties which helps to calm your skin and reduce redness and irritation. 

Ginger, where do we begin! This beauty has been linked to so many positive impacts on the body. Not only is ginger good for your entire bodies health with amazing benefits but it also helps the bodies largest organ (the skin) in a huge way, by eliminating free radicals, relieving pain and promoting a reduction in inflammation. 

Cloves have been proven to reduce fine lines and wrinkles in the skin while also helping to promote skin renewal. Cloves are a great source of dietary fibre which can help to keep you regular and your digestion healthy, every small part of your bodies functions impact your skins health so it is important to look after yourself. 

 

Ingredients (powdered): 

1 tsp nutmeg

2-3 tsp cinnamon

1 tsp cardamom

3 tsp ginger

1 tsp cloves

 

Mix all spices together and stir a teaspoon into a cup of milk , your choice (we love oat). The mix will give you approximately 8 servings.

I drink Chai lattes every day using almond milk. Can’t wait to try your recipe. Sachets normally contain full cream milk which I try to avoid so hopefully this is going to be a good substitute.
