AUSTRALIA'S NATIVE SUPERFRUIT

Originally discovered in the UNESCO World-Heritage listed Kakadu National Park in Northern Australia, the Kakadu Plum (Terminalia ferdinandiana) is classified as a superfruit thanks to it’s extraordinary composition of vitamins and antioxidants.

Recognised globally as the fruit with the highest recorded levels of natural Vitamin C, the Kakadu Plum also contains a large amounts of polyphenols (mainly gallic and ellagic acids) with antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties, plus vitamins E and A, offering an impressive list of skin and health benefits.

HISTORICAL USE

For thousands of years local indigenous communities have drawn upon the nutrient-rich Kakadu Plum as a both a food and medicine, serving as a traditional source of bush tucker, or pound into a natural antiseptic and soothing balm for aching limbs.

ENVIRONMENT

With an extremely high sun index, Kakadu is home to some of the toughest climatic conditions in the world, annually exposing the Kakadu Plum to harmful sun rays and harsh growing conditions. The fruits have consequently developed a highly efficient self-defence system in order to survive. This system is made up of a combination of powerful antioxidants to protect the fruits against UV radiation and violent free radical attack, and is what makes the Kakadu Plum the natural powerhouse it is today.

HARVESTING

Kakadu Plums are sustainably hand‐picked from their natural environment by small local teams on foot from April to June each year, in an area close to the Kakadu National Park. The ingredient is then extracted from the entire fruit through a gentle water‐based process preserving the quality of the antioxidant components. .
